Dear Scarlet,I found an old journal from the first few months I was dating your father. I was still in highschool. I wrote this when we’d only been dating like 2 months:”I know this sounds ridiculous and pathetic, but I think I could spend the rest of my life with Gabe. Scary. Maybe I’m wrong. I really think we’re good for each other, and he’s the first guy I’ve met that I would even consider as the father of my kids. If I have kids. If I get married. We’ll see. I’d never tell anyone that though, especially him.” - November 8th, 2005It’s so funny to look back on things like this, words I don’t even remember writing. There’s a lot of other crazy stuff in there that I’ll tell you about when you’re older and we talk about patience and hormones and knowing when to throw in the towel. One of my biggest hopes for your future is for you to know and share a love like your dad and I share. Male or Female, I don’t even care. I just want you to feel like this someday. I don’t mean to say that you need a significant other to complete you, because you are definitely A-OK on your own as well.
